Buena Vista Interactive’s TRON 2.0 Goes Gold, Celebrating 21 Years of TRON

BURBANK, Calif., July 17 Buena Vista Interactive, the core games publishing label of Buena Vista Games, Inc., today announced that TRON 2.0, its highly anticipated first-person action PC title, has gone gold and will be in stores nationwide Aug. 26. The news celebrates 21 years since the release of TRON, the ground-breaking science-fiction film that inspired the upcoming game.

« It’s hard to believe how far the world of TRON has come in two decades, » said Steven Lisberger, TRON director, story and screenplay writer. « Seeing the next chapter in the franchise come to life through vast interactive environments on the computer is amazing. TRON 2.0 is truly a work of art. »

Developed by critically acclaimed Monolith Productions, TRON 2.0 is an action-packed story-driven game that takes place in present day, approximately 20 years after the events of the film. Playing as Jet Bradley, son of ENCOM programmer Alan Bradley from the TRON film, gamers are digitized into cyberspace and will race on light cycles, battle corruption both inside and outside of the computer world, and explore locations including the Internet Hub, Firewall, Corrupted Server and Light Cycle Game Grid.

« In July of 1982, TRON lit up movie screens and the imagination of gamers worldwide with its trademark visual style and innovative special effects, » said Bob Picunko, director of marketing for Buena Vista Interactive. « The three-year effort to bring TRON 2.0 to the PC is now complete and we look forward to engaging a new generation of players and fans with incredible first-person gameplay, fast Light Cycle action and extraordinary graphics. »
