Depuis une mini annonce il y a un an, on était sans nouvelles de Planetside Next, la suite de Planetside, toujours développée par Sony Online Entertainment. The Escapist est allé aux nouvelles en interviewant John Smedley, le patron du studio, et en est revenu avec quelques infos :
« We have a very big launch coming in the month of March, » Smedley said. « It’s a big first person shooter franchise that we’re really happy with. »
« Could be [Planetside], » Smedley said sheepishly. « We haven’t technically announced it. » He then told me that I could say that he « hinted » that the new Planetside was imminent, which translates to 99% of a confirmation. « This is the farthest I’ve gone [discussing it with the press] and the PR people are going to shoot me. »
Plus loin, Smedley indique que le nom ne sera pas forcément « Planetside Next », et aussi qu’il adore le jeu : «[Planetside Next] is the coolest god-damned game. I’m so in love with that game.»
Ca serait tout de même surprenant que Planetside Next soit lancé dès mars, alors qu’il n’a toujours pas été véritablement annoncé. Peut-être s’agit-il du lancement d’une bêta… Par comparaison, Planetside (à ce jour peut-être le seul véritable MMOFPS) avait été annoncé en 2000 et n’était sorti qu’en 2003, tandis que The Agency, l’autre MMOFPS de SOE annoncé en juin 2007, est désormais prévu pour fin 2011.
