DESCRIPTION
———————————————-
Das Roboss is a 3 map series of single player goodness
for Half-Life 2. I made a number of HL1 single player
maps and I’ve been itching to make a good HL2 set.

DR is difficult. After my last release « Infinite Rift »
I got a lot of feedback saying it was too easy. I didn’t
want to make that mistake again. If you don’t want to be
frustrated you will probably like Easy mode. If you want
a real challenge try out Hard.

STORY
———————————————-
Combine forces are in the process of constructing a
ginormous robot in an abandoned government fallout
shelter outside City 17. The robot, codenamed « Das
Roboss », is the most destructive combine creation
yet. It makes Striders look like daddy long-legs.

Your mission is to infiltrate the occupied bunker
and find Das Roboss. If you can destroy, steal, or
otherwise remove the robot from Combine hands you
will be doing City 17 and the world a great service.

*** Good Luck! ***

INSTALLATION
———————————————-
note: Below I explain how to install and launch Das
Roboss in excruciating detail. If you’ve done this
before, just skip it.

Unzip this zip file into your

..\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\half-life 2\hl2\maps

Make sure you have subfolders enabled because there
is a graphs folder inside the zip file that contains
navigation information for the level’s AI. If you
fail to install the graph files (.ain) they will be
rebuilt when the level is loaded. This will take
about 5-30 seconds depending on your machine.

Once the files are installed right click on HL2 in
your steam launcher. Go to Properties->Launch Options ,
type « -console » in the space provided without quotes.
Close the window and launch HL2.

You will be given a command prompt where you must type
« map drob1 » without quotes. That’s all!

Enjoy the game!

ISSUES & CONCERNS
———————————————-
These are some bugs/issues that came up during beta testing

!!! WARNING : SPOILERS !!! DON’T READ UNLESS YOU DON’T
CARE

– The main courtyard in the first map (drob1) can kill your
framerate if there are too many antlions on screen. All of
them are set to fade on death, but they only seem to do
that
when they’re off camera. So depending on how you take on
this
section you may drop a bit and I apologize in advance. In
general you should get good frames throughout the set b/c
I’m
using a mid-range machine for construction.

– In drob2 when you use the gravity gun to grab batteries
of
the main charger, sometimes they don’t release right away.
I was unable to make this any smoother and still retain the
same
functionality. If you have a hard time, just keep tapping
you
secondary fire and approach from different angles.

– When you’re riding the robot in the final level there are
a number of ways you can halt the robot’s progress. The
most
common way to do this is by touching a wall while using a
mounted
gun. This will simply stop the robot from moving forward.
The
only fix I know for this is to give the robot crushing
damage….
but that just wouldn’t be fair now would it?

CREDITS
———————————————-
Thanks to Valve for getting HL2 out the door. Its truly a
gift for the mod community. I’m not crazy about steam
though.
I’ve had problems where I couldn’t edit my maps because my
internet connection was down.

Thanks to my beta testers as well:

Martinloki
MSandt
Loel Phelps
Scott Maclean

Thanks to The Snark Pit! which mysteriously went offline
right in the middle of beta testing. I apologize to
everyone
there who helped me test but did not appear in the credits.
The site went down before I could collect names and beta
reports.
That really sucked. But I’m hoping it will be back up
sometime
so I can submit Das Roboss for review!!!

http://www.snarkpit.com/ – where hath ye gone?

I want to say thanks to all my friends at 2015.
I enjoyed my time there so much and I hope to me up with
some of you guys again in the future.

Also….

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!
